Curtin Law School Senior Lecturer Dr Rocco Loiacono says developments for a “vaccine passport” in the UK and Europe are a “serious cause” for concern with respect to “preserving” our fundamental freedoms.
“This will seriously impact on our ability to socially interact as human beings.”
Dr Loiacono, in response to Fox news host Alan Jones’ remarks that a need for a vaccine passport is disproportionate to the alleged severity of the coronavirus, also said a push for a vaccine passport smacks of a “Leviathanesque” approach from governments.
“We’re in a situation similar to Thomas Hobbes’ Leviathan … where he argued for an all-powerful sovereign who would have the power to, among other things, decide what opinions and doctrines are averse”.
